[EDITS ARE BOLDED BELOW]

You've probably noticed that I've been really absent lately.

That's not going to change.

As a dear friend once said, "I've been lost to another fandom and another website.  Sorry, guys."

To make a long and potentially boring/painful story short, I've come to terms with my identity on a lot of levels, and this profile and website simply no longer suit my needs in terms of networking, promotion, or personal presentation.  "Birde" is a thing of the past -- a construct designed to refute my birth name while still allowing myself the cowardice to avoid facing a fully-fledged identity crisis, which I have since discovered is, while new and nerve-rackingly different, not very frightening at all.

The task of reorganizing and pruning down this profile is too daunting for me to attempt (I'm exhausted just thinking about it), so I'm going to use it primarily as a means of storage, like Photobucket but fancier.  For that reason, this profile is by and large staying how it is, but it's not going to be used actively.  Don't expect me to reply to anything on it, even if you're a friend with whom I have little other means to communicate; I've fallen into the habit of forgetting this profile exists.

EDIT: it would be better for you to contact me on my new account, BlakeBroflovski.  Feel free to follow that account and keep in touch with me there!  Anything that I plan to post there, I will put into storage here, to avoid copyright issues.

:star:I'm not doing any more commissions for props.  Millennium Items commissions are closed indefinitely, most likely permanently.  Please do not contact me about this.:star:

If you're still interested in buying things from me for whatever reason, I am doing $5 commissions for sketches and line art, and I'm selling several old costume pieces I no longer intend to use; [HERE] is the list of them, with prices included.  You can contact me on my [TWITTER] or [TUMBLR] accounts if you're interested in commissioning anything.  For the record, you can send messages on tumblr if you don't have an account, but I'll have to reply publicly, so you'll have to watch my profile to find my answer.

The reason I've drifted from dA as a whole is partially that this site isn't nearly personal enough from my tastes, and additionally, it's fallen out of public favor.  It's become associated with childish behavioral patterns and the accounts that manage to rise above are too few and far between to justify bothering to try.  Bottom line is, it's just not a serious marketing tool -- not that tumblr is necessarily either, but at least it's more user-friendly for my needs, and I've managed to surround myself with a couple thousand people who are interested in the new direction my life has taken.  I'm focusing on my own writing now, and doing a couple commissions on the side.  Yes, I'm still cosplaying and drawing, but primarily for my own enjoyment; these things are hobbies that, again, are better served on tumblr, not here.

It's... sort of odd, looking back at this thing that was once my lifeline, and confessing that I no longer need it.  Almost painful, in a way.  A lot of different phases of my life happened here; a lot of pain was put on display, and new growth happened too.  Friendships were made and destroyed.  But even in the face of posterity, my newfound comfort in my own skin outweighs the persona upon which this profile is built, and all the nostalgia this page contains isn't enough to save it.

It was fun, nonetheless, though.  I can't say I've regretted it.

Thanks, guys.  Best wishes to you all, and I hope to see some of you on the other side.

~Blake Broflovski

So I like tags... but I don't like tagging people.  Bite me.  XD

1. Post 5 facts about yourself
2. Answer the 11 questions your tagger created for you
3. Create 11 new questions of your own
4. Tag 11 people to answer them

Five facts:

1. I have a pretty serious fear of jellyfish. I wouldn't call it phobia because it doesn't stop me from going in the ocean, but... *shudder* ugghhhhhhh I am freaking terrified of jellyfish.
2. I love my hair, but I'm never satisfied with the color of it.  Sometimes I just want to cut it all off because the weight of it gives me headaches.
3. I have a dent in my right temple from when I cracked my head open as a kid. I like to sick people out with it. XD
4. If my cats are in my presence, I babble at them pretty much nonstop.  I have a silly talking-to-animals-and-small-children voice too.  It's pretty amusing to watch in short bursts.
5. There's very little in this world that causes me more irritation and pain to my soul than writing checks. ...besides jellyfish.

Questions for me (by vk-tsuki):

1- Pick one person that you have as your model.
Just one? you bastard. Uh... probably Jane Lynch.  Everything she does is magic.  Also, I love the Sue Sylvester attitude (the way she acts in the xfinity commercials, for those who don't know Glee) because that's pretty much how I act all the time, and she gives me confidence that I don't have to be a petite pretty cute little meek thing; I can be my loud and abrasive self and that's okay.

2- Do you have tattoos? Why/why not?
I do not because I have a deep-seated phobia of needles.  It's on my medical chart, I'm not kidding.  Despite that phobia, though, I want to get inked... I designed a tattoo of a collage of symbols to represent each pet I've had that's passed away.  My brother has gotten some ink and showed me what it feels like without actually touching needles to me, and it wasn't painful (just kinda irritating), so if I can get past the fact that it's NEEDLES, I don't think it would bother me.  But uh... I'm also broke.  Like literally bankrupt, in the red every month.  So yeah.

3- What's your favorite season? Why?
Spring.  I appreciate being warm enough during the day that I'm not hissing and spitting at people, but I enjoy still being cool enough that I can bundle up at night.  I'm a caterpillar. XD

4- Beach and summer or snowball fight?
Beach.  I intensely dislike snow (and precipitation in general, actually).  I really, really don't like living on the east coast.  Too much variation in temperature.  I could live in L.A. and not get mad.

5- Vampire or werewolf?
Vampire.  Hellooooo I don't wanna be forced to turn into a raging uncontrollable beast once a month.  There's no way to predict your calendar well enough in advance to never be around people when you're like that.  It's why I'm on birth control! (ZINGGGGG)

6- Do you have a favorite cartoon? Which?
SOUTH PARK.

7- What's your favorite hobby?
uh... drawing.  I like writing, a LOT, but artwork is something that somehow is more relaxing.  It doesn't require that my brain constantly be generating and thinking about language.  When I'm drawing, I can shut up and just hum to myself. XD

8- You're tired cuz ur answering this?
No, I'm tired because I slept poorly.

9- What time is it now?
3:17 PM EDT

10- Bitter or sweet?
Sweet.  I live for candy and sugar.  It's very difficult to find something too sweet for me.

11- Pick a movie that you like so much, and tell me why.
District 9. Because, uh.... seriously?  What's NOT to like about that movie?  IT'S PERFECTION. And the first-billed actor is perfection. and he's adorable. especially when taking a picture with my cookie because I make dumb requests. XD

My questions for you:

1. Do you ever feel like you're older/younger in your head than you actually are?
2. When you're having a tough time, who do you turn to for advice?
3. Dog person or cat person? what do you think this says about you?
4. What was the best party you've ever been to?
5. When you were a kid, who was your favorite imaginary friend?
6. Think of a moment where your mind was completely and utterly blown.  What happened?
7. Did you ever dislike something on principle (avoiding a fad) only to find out it was actually pretty good? Conversely, did you ever join a bandwagon for its popularity only to discover all your friends are retarded and it sucks?
8. What's your reaction when someone falls on you crying?
9. What's the most unusual thing you've ever put in your mouth?
10. Which year was your most embarrassing school picture? and why did you wear that shit?
11. What's something you strongly disagree with your parents about?

People I tag: (you can opt out though, because I dislike tagging people. xD)

Commission Me

8 min read

This is a list of the types of commissions I offer and the price tags, with some basic guidelines of my personal policy. If you have any questions about my policies for commissions, please read [HERE].

:bulletpurple: When you commission me for artwork, I will send you the original, undoctored copy. If it's traditional work, I will mail it to you; if it's digital, I will email you the full-sized unwatermarked file. You will need to provide me with your email/snail-mail address for this.

:bulletpurple: You must specify whether you want digital or traditional media used in your commission. Keep in mind that traditional work will cost more because it eats up my materials and because I have to pay for postage; there will be a postage fee included in the price of traditional media commissions. If you do not specify, I will default to digital work because it is easier (and cheaper) for me, and I will charge you accordingly.

:bulletpurple: I WILL NOT START YOUR COMMISSION UNTIL YOU HAVE PAID ME. My preferred methods of accepting payment are check (make out checks to Eleanor Leaman) and PayPal (send payment AS A GIFT to rigbyxc2007@yahoo.com). I do accept foreign currency commissions. I also accept cash, but I will only accept USD (American) cash in the mail.

:bulletpurple: Anything goes for the content of commissions. I'm perfectly comfortable drawing yaoi/yuri/gore and am up for trying just about anything. I reserve the right to refuse commissions that make me squeamish, but I'm usually pretty difficult to faze (I'm a vampire writer and my characters are BRUTAL, so I pretty much dgaf about any content). Additionally, since commissions are private, there's no need to make sure your commission conforms to dA's content policies. If your request doesn't follow dA's submission requirements, I'll post a cropped version on dA, or simply won't post it on here at all. You will get the unaltered version of your commission no matter what.

>50 HOUR PIECE
$75 (+20 for each additional character)
In so many words, these are the pieces that take me FOREVER to do. Often I'll be able to tell in advance if your commission will be one of these, because I absolutely WILL include every speck of detail you ask for. Don't feel bad, because I have no issue with it; in fact, I LOVE doing pieces that have more to look at when full-sized. But they cost more because I have a life and such.
EXAMPLE -- every star is placed in its true-to-life position in the sky, the morphsuit has its own texture, there are blond hairs peeking out of the cowl, and look closely at the waistband for a little lol.
EXAMPLE -- the faces, jewelry, and foliage are quite detailed; on the left border you'll find not only a house you may not have noticed, but a figure in the window, holding a candle; if you look closely enough, you can even see his glasses.

$100 (+30 for each additional character)
These are the ones that will eat up a few weeks of my life. If you want a realistic portrait (eg. as a gift), it is almost certainly going to be one of these. They typically eat up 3 or 4 pencils each, are usually of considerable size, and cause me physical harm to separate them from my ownership and put them in someone else's hands because they consume so much of my soul they are basically Horcruxes.  If you want one, I will provide it (...actually, most of these now belong to other people), but you'll have to pay for it.
EXAMPLE -- EXAMPLE -- EXAMPLE

Also, I'm comfortable drawing anything from any fandom, any of your OCs or FCs, even real-life people, pretty much anything as long as you can provide a decent reference shot or detailed description.  For your convenience, here's an abbreviated, off-the-top-of-my-head list of the fandoms for which I could crank stuff out pretty much instantly:

The A-Team, American Dad, Animorphs, Anita Blake, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Black Lagoon, Chobits, Danny Phantom, Demon Diary, District 9, Dragon Knights, Family Guy, Farscape, Glee, Harry Potter, InuYasha, LOTR, Ouran, Pandora Hearts, Pokemon, South Park, Supernatural, Tokyo Mew Mew, Transformers G1, Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, Yu-Gi-Oh (any series)

You will have to specify what style you want the piece to emulate.  I can draw in the style of the original art, realistic style (life-like portrait, but again, these are expensive), or in my own style.  If you don't specify, I will default to my own style; this could be problematic if you choose a fandom like South Park, where the original style is vastly different from my own.  Please be sure to specify so I don't disappoint you, because...

There is no refund on commissions.

Thanks for reading!

Just got back from Katsucon 2012 (...literally JUST sat down on the couch) and I figured I'd share this while it's still fresh in my mind.  In other words, so I don't ramble on forever about everything. XD

As many of you know, I got disastrously ill on Monday - Wednesday, and this kind of put a damper on the costumes I was able to wear / finish for this con.  It also put a damper on my ability to get stuff together early, so Billy and I ended up doing last-minute shopping until dark on Thursday, and only got to the con on Friday morning, where by sheer coincidence we found ourselves in line with excelladon. Talk about activating con mode early -- not even had time to process a serious thought, and already we're running into friends!  I decided to stick with the Hikaru Hitachiin costume for most of the weekend because a) it was the most comfortable thing I had and required zero maintenance, and b) I could give the wig a test run and see how bad it hurt my head.  It doesn't, at all.

For the record, the blue shirt I was wearing will not be the same shirt I'll wear at Otakon... similar, but no.  This one sheds way too much and was scraped together from a REALLY old blue sweater my dad used to wear.  In fact, all of my clothes for that costume belonged to the male people in my household at some point. XD And since I didn't have a Kaoru (because dammit, the world is so big and Chicago is SO FAR AWAY), I ended up walking around like this:

I ended up adding "Mr Uke Snippy-pants" and "he looks just like me, but different" to the poster at various points.  And apparently there actually WAS a Kaoru cosplayer who heard about me and was looking for me.  When I heard about this, I started actively seeking this person out, but to no avail.  It was still funny. XD

Friday was the first YGO shoot, where Billy was David Rabb.  We finally got to meet Malinda and Kyle, met up with aerismog, and had a fun mini-shoot with Billy "dueling" Mello-chick as Chazz, and got some nice VICTORY poses of her.  Toward the end of the YGO shoot, I spotted SetsuntaMew and pretty much attack glomped her, and we got to catch up because tumblr and facebook aren't suitable for actually communicating about personal stuff.  I think it's the most we've ever gotten to talk at a con because we usually only run into each other toward the end, when we're all in run around everywhere mode. XD

After the YGO shoot, we got lunch at Nando's, then found my friend Hagaren-Layer and her cosplay partner for the weekend, and they helped us lug all our crap up to the room.  I got changed into Mad Hatter for the Pandora Hearts shoot, which was what I've come to understand is a very stereotypical PH shoot -- silly, unorganized, ridiculously fun derpiness, nothing really gets done and nobody stays still, everybody is really hyper, and we basically just LARP with shutters clicking for a few minutes... or hours.... or until we get bored (at Youmacon this lasted for literally a day and a half, to give you an idea; we only separated to get a few hours of sleep).  And in the middle of it, I ran off to flag down a Hikaru & Kaoru who were actually twins... just another thing we do in the middle of PH shoots -- forget we're in them. XD After that, Billy and I got into our third costume of the day -- maskless scarface Arkana and girl Marik -- for the formal ball.  Turns out my heels ARE NOT designed for dancing, and Billy doesn't know how to dance or hold a rhythm, so the ball was pretty much a huge flop. It was fun while it lasted, and at least I got a waltz!  Afterward, I got back into the Hikaru costume, and we spent like 2 hours talking to aerismog (and Katsuya for a few minutes), finally catching up and actually TALKING for once, instead of our usual Stealth Hi Bye.

Best cosplays we saw all weekend (besides our friends, who are always amazing):

King Bumi -- with horns and purple cloak, hunched over, chewing on rock candy.  I DIED. a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto…
Prince Zuko -- the Earth Kingdom refugee version, with a tea kettle! sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-a…
Entei, Raikou, Suikune -- anthro warrior versions.  SO EFFING AWESOME. a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto…
Mr T -- he wore a different outfit every day, and never broke character, calling everyone brotha and sista.  He even answered to the name BA, with "I AIN'T GETTIN' ON NO PLANE!" sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-s…
Hades and Megara -- Meg is my favorite Disney girl (I hesitate to say "princess" with her because I'm technical like that... and honestly a big reason why I like her is she's NOT a princess, but she carries herself like one), and these costumes were just... freaking... I can't even. a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto…
Mr Snippy -- MR MOTHERFLIPPING SNIPPY. alexiuss.deviantart.com/art/Ro… alexiuss.deviantart.com/art/Ro… ...yes. I kind of had a microgasm every time I saw this guy and my bodily functions stopped working momentarily.  There was a large puddle of pee on the floor after I took this guy's picture. a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto…

aaaand even though these were extremely impressive, the best one we saw was Professor Oak. sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-s… Why?  Simple -- the guy not ONCE broke character.  Not to buy shit in the dealer's room, not to talk to people, not to answer questions, NEVER broke down and acted like a person in a costume.  He WAS Oak, through and through, beyond the point of acting.  He would talk to people as if they were characters in Pokemon games, insisting on asking newcomers "are you a boy or a girl" before talking to them.  He was hysterical to interact with, and we intentionally sought him out once or twice just to watch him and observe the hilarious things he did.  He approached a fur suit cosplayer of Stitch, poked at the suit a little, tried to look him up in the Pokedex, and eventually settled for throwing a Pokeball at him, looking perplexed when it bounced off and hit the floor.  He revealed to us the origin of napalm ("we cut up Magmars"), the fundamental difference between card games and Pokemon battles ("we have to deal with REAL shit"), what exactly a Zapdos is ("a giant hummingbird shooting electricity at people"), and why the Pokedex didn't help him understand the modern creatures at conventions ("this thing is so old, it's still running on dial-up").

Also, there was a lot of South Park cosplay.  I found 3 different Craigs!  And there was even a Token!  There was also a Mysterion manning a table -- soltian, who I actually met outside cosplay at Tigercon -- though we didn't run into her this time because we didn't spend much time in the artist's alley, but I plan to accost her at Otakon.  NO WORRIES.  There was a Stan & Kyle too and I KNOW I've seen them on dA but I can't find them now. ;^; so I am a sad panda.  But it made me happy to see people IRL that I've only ever heard of online! Speaking of... I must mention that we finally met 0nSilverWingsX in person! ...but I can't remember exactly when it happened initially.  This con was very successful in being so much fun it all ran together into a huge blob of good times left and right.

Saturday, I was Hikaru again, and Billy was Arkana (with mask this time, thank God, because I was getting far too lazy to try to create the burn scar makeup again even though I'd only done it once).  The YGO shoot was bigger because there were like five ancient Egyptians there, including Kitty-Caesar as Mana.  It was also organized a little better -- I've noticed people tend to pull out their game faces and behave when they know Katsuya is coming. XD Billy and I ended up spending a good portion of the day hanging with our friend Jason, including our second trip to Nando's, where I got what Jason called "Jew food."  We also spent a while semi-stalking Kyle as Jack Skellington, laughing at his antics as he derped around the dealer's room.  At some point I ran into a Tamaki and another legit set of twins cosplaying the Hitachiin twins... and they were guys. ACTUAL DUDES COSPLAYING SHOTA BOYS WTF THE WORLD HAS EXPLODED. A couple of my friends also exploded at their attractiveness when I twitpic'd them. It was very very amusing. XD Unfortunately I cut my day short on Saturday because I was getting a nasty migraine from switching contacts so much the day before and wearing wig caps forever (usually I at least get a LITTLE break where I can let my hair loose), so I holed up in the room at like 6:30 and only resurfaced once to make potty, because our toilet was broken.

I should add that this was by far one of the most interesting bathrooms we've had at a con.  It comes into the top 3 for sure, its competitors being Alcon (where Martin's hangover was so violent it broke the toilet and the shower already didn't work), and AnimeNEXT (where Lauren decided to have me cut 24 inches of her hair off in Kirbopher and helixD's shower).  This time, one of our roommates had a beach shoot that ended up getting some of her dyed fabric wet, so there was sand and pink runoff EVERYWHERE, and on top of it, the toilet clogged for no apparent reason.  At least the shower still worked, even though the grout was rosy and the floor was gritty.

Sunday morning, Billy had a mini shoot with Katsuya and Malinda, which I slept through because me, wake up, what? u srs? I got dressed as Mad Hatter Break, got Billy's help shoveling all my crap in his car, and then had a half-hour shoot with Katsuya.  I'm very very very excited to see the results of these pictures because she had me in some NICE poses. ^^ I did a speed-change in the parking garage, back to Hikaru once again, for the Ouran shoot.  We ran into a different Kyle on the way out (...okay not a SP Kyle, the guy's ACTUAL name is Kyle), but only briefly because we were each running toward our destinations.  Usually Billy spends a lot of time chilling with him at cons, especially MAGFest, but apparently there were wardrobe malfunctions that detained him from Katsu for most of the weekend, so we only saw him for like three seconds.

Back in the con, we kept crossing paths with Erin and her mom & roommates, and kind of shouted maybe-bye-maybe-I'll-see-you-later-but-if-not-have-fun farewell ish things at each other a few times.  We've all come to accept that farewells at cons often turn into "oh hey hi again even though I just said bye to you."  Just as we were looking for more Ouran people, we ran into Fayina again -- she and a friend were cosplaying Roxanne and Max from A Goofy Movie!  I PEED ALL OVER THE PLACE. ...okay I did that a lot this weekend.  BUT OMG THAT MOVIE DEFINED A MAJOR PART OF MY CHILDHOOD.  "Stand Out" was my favorite song of all time for like 3 years.  No lie.

Anyway, we found a ton of Ouran people, and uh, we had everybody but Takashi.  It was kind of crazy awesome.  The Tamaki & twins I saw earlier didn't find us, but the twins that WERE there were the ones I ran away from the PH shoot to attack.  Small world! XD We had a group shoot for a couple frames, but I'm a person who can't stand duplicate characters in shoots, so since I was the only duplicate, I ducked out to the other side of a camera lens pretty quickly, and we focused on getting individual shots.  There was so much derp and fun (I was mean and made Hikaru laugh even though it caused her pain), but we actually managed to keep ourselves organized, so we got a bunch of great shots.  Jason ran into Billy as the shoot was reaching its end (...as the twins and Tamaki were throwing flowers off the balcony at people to try to get rid of their extras), and we had the chance to say bye to people before we took off in a mad attempt to acquire breakfast.  I made sure all the Ouran people (and PH people) got my dA name and facebook, and most of us will be back for Otakon, so I'm sure we'll have superspecialfuntimes there. XD

And that was Katsucon SKIPPY DIPPY DOO.  Billy commented that he hasn't gotten a high from a con like he did from this one in a long time.  It was fun, everybody was chill with everybody, and it was exciting!  The only thing we seriously severely missed this time around (besides my twin, who I always miss) was DESOLATE MEMOIR.  It's just a;lkj;ldfhslkd okay you have to understand that most of the people I talk about in these con blogs, most of the cosplayers I get stupid excited to meet and catch up with, like Killian and Melissa and Katsuya, are people I met at Katsucon 2 years ago.  Therefore seeing them and hanging with them is like the defining point of this convention for me.  And one of the key things about that YGO shoot all the way back then was Memoir being cute and funny behind Killian's camera, and one of the major reasons I was looking forward to Katsucon so much this year is because MEMOIR was going to be there and ffffffffffff I was mad at life for screwing that up.  But... as is my motto... there will always be more cons.  AND MORE MEMOIR. XD  So, to those I didn't see this time, I will catch you next time! ...or you'd better catch me. ;D

Also.... sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-a… relevant.

good news: weight loss and toning and other general health-improvement techniques are all working very well.

bad news: I'm sick, been slowly getting sick since Sunday, and am officially too sick to get off the couch and trudge up to my own bed at this point... aaaand Shockwave isn't done. I was planning on finishing him this week, so he'd be shiny fresh for Katsu.  It seems that isn't gonna happen at all now.  I'm angry, I'm hysterical with tears of frustration and illness pain, I don't even want to get up for the next like 8 years.

God dammit.

I think... for costumes, I was planning on wearing Mad Hatter Break (because the coat is so sexy), though without the KILLER heels... we learned the hard way that they don't stick to slick flooring, didn't we Cassie? :'D but idk how much I'll be in that one anymore because I'm already in pain, and we learned at TigerCon that me + sick + convention + Break wig = exponential pain increase.  I'm going to be a ball gown girl version of Marik with Billy's Arkana for the masquerade.  And if Break's wig threatens to completely destroy me, I might get so sick of it that I temporarily bust out a costume I'll be officially premiering at a later con, just because it'll be comfortable.  Other than that, I'll be following people around being my good old snarky self... and I'll probably be pretty giggly and touchy-feely, because it's quite likely that I'll be on a steady regimen of Vicodin.  FUN.
